2014 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour Schedule Announced

The 2014 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour is still months away, but you can make plans now for the road trip of a lifetime led by Street Rodder Magazine’s very own Jerry Dixey in his ’59 RT Chevy Impala. Built by award-winning builder Dean Livermore, the lead road tour car is currently undergoing transformations into the road-worthy, head-turning machine it was meant to be. We covered the Impala story last month with a sneak-peek at the rendering.

Since ending the 2013 tour in September, Dixey has set his sights on making the 2014 trip even better and preliminary plans look promising. While the full list of stops and roadside sights is still being finalized, the dates, starting points and destinations have been determined. Road tour participants always enjoy first-class access to the nation’s most renowned automotive museums, hot rod shops, car shows and even the prestigious SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The open road awaits you, so check out the full list below and make plans now to join the exciting convoy that is the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour. It’s a street rod enthusiasts’ dream that promises to be an unforgettable experience for the young and old alike.

First Look at the 2011 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour Vehicle

The AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour kicks off at the end of this month, and final preparations are being hammered down now. The much anticipated unveiling of the tour’s lead vehicle took place on May 2nd at the Street Rodder Tech Center in Irvine, California. Powersports Technical Product Manager Len Groom was on the scene to help unveil the 55 Chevy that will be carrying Street Rodder Magazine editor Jerry Dixey around the country this summer. Excitement around the tour is definitely growing, and the reveal of the 2011 Road Tour vehicle signals the final stretch before the tour officially starts May 27th.

This year’s car was built by Chris Sondles, owner of Woody’s Hot Rodz. Featuring a complete Morrison chassis and Ron Shaver-built stroked & bored 409 motor, AMSOIL fluids are installed completely throughout to ensure the engine is well-prepared for the thousands of miles ahead of it. AMSOIL took this opportunity to launch a brand new product specific to the Hot Rod market. The new AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor oil will be the oil of choice for this year’s tour. Designed for hot rods and classic cars with performance engines that require high levels of zinc to protect flat tappet camshafts and lifters, a key feature is its ability to provide superior rust and corrosion protection in storage conditions. The 2011 Street Rodder Road Tour is the perfect proving ground for AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil, now available in 10W-30 and 20W-50 viscosities.

Testing was conducted last Tuesday at the track where the car was subject to a slalom course, skid pad, and 60-0 braking. The results were interesting, to say the least. First Run of the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour is a Wrap

The 2010 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour kicked off on May 15 as Jerry Dixey and crew made their way to the 20th Cruisin’ Ocean City Car Show in Ocean City, MD. Leading the road tourians in a custom-built ’27 Roadster Pickup, Jerry has planned a series of summer tours around the country for any street rodder who wants to come along for the ride.

The first tour of the summer kicked off with a send-off party at Southern Rods & Parts in Greer, SC. Tour participants and about 50 local hot rodders turned out to witness the official unveiling of the 2010 Road Tour 27XL Roadster Pick-up that is leading this years’ tour. As the Roadster was revealed, it was clear how much attention to detail Zane & crew at Cotati Speed Shop had put into every aspect and the crowd was rightfully impressed.

The first stop on the tour was highly anticipated, as the Road Tour participants were one of the first groups to see the new NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC. The museum displays and exhibits illustrate the rise of the racing industry, and was coined a must-see for any car enthusiast in the Charlotte area. The next day brought stops to various companies with ties to the street rodder industry, including a visit to Dale Earnhardt Inc. just outside of Mooresville NC. The facility serves as a tribute to what many consider to be the best race car driver in history, Dale Earnhardt Sr, and displays a collection of special interest vehicles, trophies and memorabilia detailing the legends life. The tour then headed north for more stops at various museums and facilities before landing at the site of the Wright Bros. famous first-ever plane flight in North Carolina. The memorial park site includes recreations of the original camp, as well as a runway in the sand that could be viewed from the hill overlooking the site. The tour had a good time standing in a place of American history and seeing where the aviation industry started.

From there, the tour headed to the US Naval Air Station Oceana, home to the Navy’s jet fighter strike force. While there, the crew got a chance to have lunch with the airmen and women who fight to keep our country safe. Afterwards they were given the opportunity to see some of the planes that played a large part in the history of Naval Aviation.

After a couple more stops along the way, the Road Tour landed in Ocean City to a sea of street rods, customs and muscle cars. The 20th Cruisin’ Ocean City was the best one yet in the opinions of many, and the ’27 Roadster was a popular exhibit that everyone wanted to see. The Road Tour crew also drew the attention of celebrity Henry Winkler (a.k.a. the Fonz), who spent some time in the Road Tour tent throughout the weekend and even posed for a picture with the Road Tourians. Overall, the first leg of the 2010 AMSOIL Street Rod Tour was a great success and signals the start of many more to come throughout the summer. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, don’t miss this opportunity to join any of the remaining tour legs if you are able. AMSOIL is gearing up for what is always an exciting part of summer: the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour. The excitement will kick off on May 15 in Greer, SC at Southern Rods & Parts Headquarters and now is your chance to join. Since 1996 the Street Rodder Road Tour has been led by Road Tour Director Jerry Dixie in a custom-built street rod. Over the course of the summer they embark on 8 different week-long tours that take them across the country to various events, car shows, and even some spectacular private car collections along the way. 2010 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour First Glance

AMSOIL has once again signed on as title sponsor for the 2010 Street Rodder Road Tour presented by Street Rodder Magazine. It's an event that takes street rod enthusiasts around the country to various destinations in a series of tour legs. Each year a custom-built street rod leads the way. This year a ’27 Roadster Pickup built by Zane Cullen and crew at Cotati Speed Shop will have the honors, with Jerry Dixie leading the pack of impressive street rods in the Roadster. Each year the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour inevitably captures the attention of every city it travels through, and has seen tremendous growth and success in the years since it began.

Over the Christmas holidays AMSOIL received an invitation to visit the Santa Rosa facility where the '27 Roadster is being assembled. Though everything is under wraps till you see it first in Street Rodder magazine, Cullen and crew do awesome work, as these other photos here attest.

Along the way exclusive visits to street rod shops, manufacturing facilities and some amazing car collections fill in the miles on the road. And once more, the Road Tourians will visit the AMSOIL Center, this time in mid-August on their way to Bonneville.

If you or someone you know is a fellow street rod enthusiast, it’s definitely worth your while to try to make it on one of these tours. It’s the trip of a lifetime that won’t soon be forgotten…or as most who participate say, "a trip that won’t ever be forgotten."

2009 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour Visits Superior

AMSOIL welcomed the 2009 Street Rodder Road Tour on its ‘AMSOIL Tour’ leg here in Superior, WI last night. While the weather could have been a little nicer, it did not affect the number of local enthusiasts who turned out to see the tour roll in. With over 200 vintage and classic cars in attendance there was much to see and enjoy up close as the tour arrived, originating in Bowling Green, Ky. Jerry Dixie led the tour in his 1952 Chevy Bel-Air, which was one of the stars of the show in all of its metalflake green and white glory. Street Rods of all makes and models were in attendance, with something for every taste and generation. The next stop in the Road Tour is St. Ignace, MI for the St. Ignace Car Show. For those of you in that area, be sure you don’t miss this opportunity to see beautifully restored vehicles and show your support for the Street Rodder scene. The AMSOIL Tour was only the third in a series of eight legs, so there are plenty more opportunities throughout the country this summer to make it to one of these exciting events. 2008 AMSOIL Year in Review

For many, 2008 will be remembered as a year of wreckage in the U.S. financial markets, with subsequent consequences rippling out in concentric circles of turbulence throughout the world economy. At AMSOIL, 2008 is will be remembered as a year of milestones as we completed our expansion into the AMSOIL Center in January and marked our 35th Anniversary in July, eager to embark on the another 35 years looking forward. It was a joy to share the moment with Dealers and friends of the AMSOIL family from across the continent at our Convention here in Duluth/Superior.

Early in the year, AMSOIL was saddened by the loss of legendary hot rod builder Boyd Coddington. A true inspiration, Boyd’s many accomplishments spoke of his passion for his work. AMSOIL was fortunate to be able to partner with him during the months before his passing, and appreciated his commitment to his relationships and his craft. Boyd was truly a loss to the both the industry and those who knew him personally.

In March, AMSOIL announced its sponsorship of the 2008 Street Rodder Road Tour. Led by Jerry Dixie, these enthusiasts love sharing their passion as they travel around the country in their classic street rods. On their way to the Back to the 50’s event in St. Paul, MN in June, AMSOIL hosted a party at the AMSOIL Center. AMSOIL founder and President/CEO A.J. Amatuzio welcomed the Road Tourians, and Jo Coddington made an appearance. The event attracted hundreds of street rodders and local enthusiasts. It was exciting for AMSOIL to be a part of this event. The year ended with AMSOIL becoming title sponsor of this annual event.

Springtime brought more excitement as AMSOIL continued its sponsorship of the 2008 Diesel Power Challenge, a two-day competition held in Salt Lake City. Diesel builders put their trucks through the paces in a competition fit for only the toughest. The Four Wheeler Top Truck Challenge was another event AMSOIL was proud to be a part of. This week long event puts drivers and their trucks through rigorous events that test even the mightiest Four Wheelers.

In 2008 AMSOIL became the Official Oil of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as well as the 2009 Daytona Bike Week. The AMSOIL presence in these motorcycle scenes is huge and continues to grow.

For the second year AMSOIL had the privilege of being a sponsor of the National Street Rod Association, participating in events from coast to coast. Their August Street Rod Nationals in Louisville is the granddaddy of car shows and the standard by which all others are measured.

Through our Dealers AMSOIL reaches a myriad of trade shows and events in nearly every market where there is an engine that needs lubrication. The biggest of all these shows is the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas, a mecca for the performance automotive enthusiast. As is the custom, numerous new products were introduced again this year, including AMSOIL Brake Fluid, AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid, new Ea Filters, a new 10W-30 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil and a fabulous new line of synthetic racing oils, brand name Dominator. We also introduced a new line of co-branded AMSOIL/Injen Air Intake Systems for gasoline powered cars and received a 2008 Global Media Award for this system.

2009 at AMSOIL promises to be an even better year with still more new products in the pipeline and expectations for continued growth due to continued demand for our products, especially in these times when motorists and enthusiasts want to protect their investments for the long haul. AMSOIL Becomes Title Sponsor of the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour

Once again, AMSOIL has partnered with Street Rodder Magazine, having signed on for the next 3 years as the Title Sponsor of the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour. Jerry Dixie will once again lead the tour, only this time in a 1952 Chevy Hardtop. Built by Woody’s Hot Rodz out of Bright, Indiana, the 2009 Road Tour car is built to showcase the quality of parts developed within the street rod market. With added features such as climate controlled heat and air conditioning, this car will be built to endure the entire trip of over 20,000 miles across the country.

The Street Rodder Road Tour started in 1996, with a new car build each year. Street rod enthusiasts gather at different stops along the tour, some of which are fortunate enough to make all the rounds. Events are held in each city the tour stops in, resulting in good times and great memories. Spectators everywhere watch as groups of anywhere from 10 vehicles to larger groups around 70 travel the country. The Tour is indeed a sight to behold as it moves from city to city, and AMSOIL is proud to be a title sponsor of this unique adventure.

More Road Tour Scenes

Along with lots of smiling faces there were many cameras on hand Wednesday night, and far too many pictures to share here, but for those who missed, you can see we had quite an outing when the Street Rodder Road Tour rolled in. Thanks again to all who made this such a great success.

The following morning, the Road Tourians, as they call themselves, gathered in front of the product center for coffee and doughnuts before heading south. What follows is the morning line-up, a Wisconsin scene from "on the road again" and Jo Coddington in the front seat of Jerry Dixey's lead car at Culver's where we gathered in Vadnais Heights for a late lunch.

It's a Happening!

The AMSOIL sponsored 2008 PPG Street Rodder Road Tour slipped into town tonight, and whoa, were there cars to see or what! The word on the street was that the street rodders were a-comin' and that local car clubs were busy with spit and polish for the shindig. The AMSOIL Center parking lot became a full fledged car show.

In case you missed it, here are some images to give you a taste of tonight's spice. The festivities began at 5:30 for those who were in the road tour. The public had been invited from 6:30 - 8:00 but a lot of folks got here early to put their pride and joy into the choicest spots on the asphalt. Like more than two hours early! And a good thing, too, because there were more than 400 cars on hand, along with countless rodder fans checking things out.

A lot of old timers had flashbacks looking at the cool cars from a 1927 Model T to some rather hip muscle cars, rat rods, and everything in between. It was a full color spectrum and a spectacle rolled into one.

Add to the mix an absolutely perfect day, cloudless sky and sunshine, a little Fifties rock 'n roll, and celebrities like Jo Coddington and Jerry Dixey. A pinch of sass and local media coverage made it a kick. If you got to be part of it, we're glad you were here. Thanks to all who helped make it happen.

Street Rodder Road Tour Coming To Town

For a lot of folks, it’s like Christmas in summer. Wednesday night, June 18, the Street Rodder Road Tour will be making its last stop before heading to the Minnesota Street Rod Association’s Back to the Fifties event in St Paul. We’re currently anticipating 28 cars and a contingent of local street rodding enthusiasts. This leg of the Tour which originated in Bowling Green, Kentucky, currently has 22 vehicles making the whole trip, but six more will be joining soon. That’s how road tours go, with enthusiasts hopping aboard along the way.

A special feature of this stop will be the presence of Jo Coddington, wife of the late Boyd Coddington, one of street rodding’s most influential builders and centerpiece of American Hot Rod. Jo will be joining Road Tour Director Jerry Dixey in the lead car for the last segment of this journey.

June 18 Agenda
The agenda here on Wednesday is for the Road Tourians to arrive at AMSOIL Center after checking in at their hotel. From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. we’ll have suitable street rod music blaring and vendors on hand if you need a bite to eat or something to quench your thirst. And of course there will be the cars, which is what it's all about. Happily, the weather appears to be promising. Local car clubs and the public have been invited to view the cars on the tarmac inside Gate A at the AMSOIL Center.

Evidently there’s a lot of buzz out on the street. Anyone wishing to join the parade of classic cars on Thursday’s day trip to St. Paul is more than welcome. We’ll be gathering again in the morning at the AMSOIL Center to head south at approximately 8:30 a.m. If you’re planning to drive Back to the Fifties, be sure to double check the start time when visiting Wednesday eve.

Are We Having Fun Yet?

As summertime approaches, the opportunitites to be part of an AMSOIL sponsored event almost seem to be stacking on top of one another. It is a very exciting year with head turning thrills wherever you look.

Next weekend the NSRA will gather in Springfield, Missouri for the Mid-America Street Rod Nationals at the Missouri Entertainment and Event Center. This is the 25th year of the annual event, which is noted as the city's largest vintage car show. Fans of these wonderfully cool old-time cars can see them live from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday thru Sunday, May 23-25.

I know a few off road truck enthusiasts who would probably give their eye teeth to be part of the Top Truck Challenge in Hollister, California the first week of June. There will be a lot of shredded metal and other carnage again this year, no doubt, as the editors and publishers of Four Wheeler magazine dream up new ways to put equipment to the test. More info on that will follow soon.

A little later in June the Street Rodder Road Tour will be passing through Superior and stopping at the World AMSOIL Center the evening of June 18. The public is invited to see these classic cars from 6:30 till 8:00. (We'd party till midnight, but the drivers will have just finished a long day's trek and out of courtesy we'll let them check in to their hotels and get some rest.)

Those who have followed the tour in Street Scene and Street Rodder magazines will know that columnist Jerry Dixey drives the lead car. It's a lot of work putting these road tours together, but Jerry loves all the great people he's met along the way. This is your opportunity to meet him in person.

For the record, anyone interested in joining the parade of vintage street rods on Thursday as they head to St. Paul can meet us at the AMSOIL Center at 8:30 a.m. The word on the street is that Jo Coddington, co-star of the American Hot Rod TV show, will be along for the ride.

It's the Real Deal

One of the sure signs of spring is the beginning of the Street Rodder Road Tour. So it is with a measure of amusement that we were forwarded this photo of the completed PPG Road Tour Roadster at the start of its first run in Chicago. Here in the Northland the sight of snow in late April is not uncommon. Somehow Jerry Dixey managed to get things underway this past weekend and survive winter's tenacity.

This first leg of the tour commenced in Chicago and will wind its way ultimately to Knoxville for the NSRA Nationals South where AMSOIL is an official product sponsor for 2008 and 2009. The flowers will be in bloom there, and when the Tour returns north we'll hopefully have flowers to share as well.

In the meantime, the AMSOIL lubricated car is a "looker." Ride on.

Sneak Peak

This coming Saturday, April 26, the Street Rodder Road Tour will begin the first leg of its journey beginning at its birthplace at the new Roadster Shop facilities in Mundelein, Illinois. Assembled by the team at the Roadster Shop, the American Speed Company's Speed '33 all steel body will rest on a Roadster Shop chassis and be powered by the new Ford Racing Boss 302 450 HP motor, lubricated with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils and protected with Ea filters.

Street Rodder Editor Brian Brennan gave the AMSOIL blog team a sneak peak of the PPG Road Tour Roadster as it neared completion just before this weekend's launch. As in year's past, the car is a beauty. It'll be a shockin' rockin' fun ride for tour guide Jerry Dixey.

It won’t be long till summer is here.... the season of boating, picnics and classic car shows. This year AMSOIL has become an official sponsor of the Street Rodder / PPG Road Tour. It is especially exciting to note that the third leg of the Road Tour will wind its way up to Superior, WI where we can put our newly renovated AMSOIL Center on display. The destination for leg three will be the 35th gathering of the Minnesota Street Rod Association’s Back to the Fifties event, coincidentally coinciding with our own 35th Anniversary celebration year. For 35 years AMSOIL has been delivering the power of synthetics, and what better way to tell the story.

Beginning in Bowling Green, Kentucky, these classic street rods will detour through Youngstown and Cleveland in Ohio, make a fast break up through Michigan and the U.P. to weave through the Great Lakes on their way to AMSOIL where local car enthusiasts will gather to greet this hardy breed of road warriors.

Classic Automobilia Tour Goes Back to the Fifties

The word is out. AMSOIL will be one of the sponsors of this summer’s Street Rodder PPG Road Tour. Leg three of this tour, sponsored by Classic Automobilia, will be especially exciting as it passes through Superior, Wisconsin to visit the newly renovated AMSOIL Center on Wednesday evening, June 18th. Classic Automobilia sells pedal cars and 50’s and 60’s nostalgia items.

This 35th edition of the famed Minnesota Street Rod Association’s Back to the 50’s weekend coincides with the 35th anniversary celebration of AMSOIL INC. and the birth of the synthetic lubricants market. This is one of the largest gatherings of street rods in the world, attracting more than 11,500 registered vehicles last year.

According to Jerry Dixey, tour coordinator, this leg of the Street Rodder PPG Road Tour will begin in Bowling Green, Kentucky and pass through Youngstown, Ohio, and Michigan before chugging into Superior for an evening bar-b-cue. Stops along the way will include the Classic Automobilia 50’s diner showroom in Youngstown, Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a tour of the Henry Ford Museum, and the American Speed Company in Plymouth, Michigan. American Speed is the supplier of this year’s steel 1933 roadster body.

On Thursday morning the Classic Automobilia Tour will gather at the AMSOIL Center to begin their trek through rural Minnesota to St. Paul and Back to the Fifties. Local street rodders will be invited to come along for the ride.
