Factory Five Racing Tour Wraps

The 2010 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour recently completed the 4th tour of the season and, as always, it ended on a high note. The Factory Five Racing Tour kicked off July 18 at the Factory Five Racing complex in Wareham, MA. Almost 20 vehicles were behind Dixey as the tour made its way down the East Coast to its final destination at the Syracuse Nationals in NY. After an in-depth tour of the facilities at their open house at Factory Five the tour began winding its way towards Cape Cod, where the group was led by motorcycle legend Dave Pererewitz on a tour of the Plymouth Rock area. The cruise led them to the original Plymouth Rock and a replica of the Mayflower for an opportunity to see a piece of American history. Whistle stops at local restoration shops DMC Racing in Halifax, MA and Perewitz Cycle Fabrication marked the beginning of the week-long tour.

Monday brought a full day of activities, with the first stop bringing everyone to the USS Albacore submarine near downtown Portsmouth. Built in 1952 for the Navy, it was the first submarine with a cylindrical hull that is now the standard shape of today’s modern submarines. From there it was on to Strawbery Banke village and museum, where the collection of buildings dates back to the earliest settlers of New England and represent life as it was in the early days of Portsmouth. After leaving and enjoying a ride through the New Hampshire countryside, the crew landed at New Hampshire International Raceway in Loudon, NH. As one of the trip highlights, they were permitted to make a few laps around the road course and put their vehicles through the track paces. After, it was onward towards NY with a couple more stops at some well-known restoration shops: Lowery’s Auto Restorations in Tilton, NH, Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop in Saratoga Springs, NY and Tucci Engineering in Marcy, NY. All three shops are well-respected in the street rod industry, and each received the tour with a warm welcome.

Finally, the tour landed in Syracuse, NY, its final destination being the Syracuse Nationals. Already in full swing by the time they arrived, the Road Tourians enjoyed activities such as a demolition derby, figure 8 racing and nightly fireworks. The tour wrapped to everyone agreeing on the great turnout and events, with hopes for participation in future tours.

AMSOIL is proud to be the sponsor of this exciting annual excursion, and there is still time to join any of the remaining four tours for 2010. If you or someone you know drives a street rod, don’t miss the chance to be a part of this excitement-filled, head turning tour as they travel the country throughout the summer.

Team Hybrid EVO IX Lands PAS Feature

Charleston Panesa and his 2006 Mitsubishi EVO IX with AMSOIL under the hood has been turning heads in the tuner scene for some time now. A member of Team Hybrid based out of California, Panesa recently landed a feature article in Performance Auto & Sound Magazine titled Generation Nine.

Team Hybrid consists of a group of close-knit enthusiasts who share the same passion for cars, with the philosophy of creating vehicles with total package capabilities: Race-Street-Show. They all know what it takes to make a star in a scene where competition is rampant.

Panesa started his EVO IX project with the goal of creating a show car that could still hold its own as a street car. He succeeded, turning this show-worthy ride into a daily driver capable of over 500-awhp. That much horsepower on a street car alone earns him respect, in addition to the many tweaks and mods that make this EVO IX so unique. He uses E85 fuel, which has major advantages to tuner owners with increased horsepower, lowered cooling charge temps, and reduced emissions. The modification list is extensive, with everything from the inside out redesigned to make it the stunner it is today. From the wide-body kit with its gleaming Tangelo Pearl paint to the explosive sound system installed, it looks every bit the part of a winning show car.

Tuner owners seek out only the best products to stand out and enhance performance, which is how AMSOIL came to be the lubricant of choice for Panesa. We'll be keeping up with Team Hybrid as they continue solidifying their reputation as a leader in the tuner market.

Today Is National Collector Car Appreciation Day

The automotive revolution has come a long way over the past century. With the birth of this industry came a new culture in automotive restoration and collecting, a hobby with consistent growth over the past five decades to the point where it supports countless businesses and employs even more. As such, the U.S. Senate Resolution recently designated July 9 as National Collector Car Appreciation Day to ensure that the growth of this American pastime continues. In recognition of this day, collectors and enthusiasts will be hosting events and car shows throughout the country. From car cruises to club gatherings, enthusiasts will be out in full force to show their support of their passion.

AMSOIL lends support to this market through sponsorships of the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour and the National Street Rod Association (NSRA). Both are an integral part of the automotive collector and restoration market, and both play a role in keeping the culture alive. AMSOIL also offers high-zinc Premium Protection Motor Oils in 10W-40 and 20W-50 to keep the engines in these classic vehicles running at peak performance.

If you get a chance, find an event near you and show your support of this American custom. Whether you own your own rod and take it on the road, or you're a spectator at a local car show, be sure to get out and see a piece of American history. 2010 TWISTEX Field Operations: It’s a Wrap

For months, AMSOIL has been following the trail of Tim Samaras and crew of the TWISTEX Field Operations as they traveled the country in search of tornado activity. As of July 1st, TWISTEX has concluded their 2010 deployments and the team is currently settling down to evaluate the many hours of research they gathered.

Since our last blog update here on the AMSOIL website, Tim and crew have been from Texas all the way up to Minnesota gathering data to help better understand the science of tornado activity. Using several in-situ deployment instruments to gather data from the core of the supercells and tornadoes, TWISTEX captured the first-ever wind speed data at two different heights. With so much data to evaluate, it’s inevitable more will be revealed. They are eager to discover the impact their research will have in the final analysis.

In addition to their great contribution to the science of meteorology, Samaras and crew lent a helping hand to those in need in the wake of tornado activity in Wadena, MN on June 17th. After one vehicle was temporarily sidelined with a flat tire in South Dakota, part of the group arrived in Wadena just in time to witness numerous tornadoes, including a wedge tornado that caused significant damage to this small town. The team regrouped in time to see another rain-wrapped tornado move over the town of Wadena from the southwest, while a smaller one was observed going through the south part. Having arrived minutes after the tornado swept through and left citizens stunned, the TWISTEX crew jumped into action and helped out those injured while surveying the massive damage left behind. Wadena ended up with extensive damage in the main path that included thrown vehicles, destroyed houses, and the loss of the local high school building. As stated by Samaras, spending time searching for victims puts into perspective on why TWISTEX is so driven to understand these powerful storms.

11 weeks, 28,000 miles, and hours upon hours of footage later, the TWISTEX team is now home. Aside from the flat tire, there were no mechanical breakdowns, safety or traffic incidents within the 5-6 vehicle convoy the entire operation. AMSOIL is proud to be part of this adrenaline-fueled mission, and we look forward to seeing the final results of their hard work in upcoming episodes of Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel.
